Any time a motor carrier or other regulated entity changes its Legal Business Name, address, or other details in their record, they should update their US DOT and Operating Authority records with FMCSA in a timely manner. In addition, FMCSA requires all entities under its jurisdiction to update their information every two years:

Routine USDOT Number Updates
To view a company’s current information, go to the SAFER System’s Company Snapshot. Updates can be done by filing an MCS-150 form. See below for more information on updating your US DOT number information.
Biennial Updates
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires all entities under its jurisdiction to update their information every two years. You are required to provide this update every two years even if your company has not changed its information, has ceased interstate operations since the last update, or is no longer in business and you did not notify FMCSA.
Failure to complete a Biennial Update will result in deactivation of your USDOT number and may result in civil penalties of up to $1,000 per day, not to exceed $10,000.

How do I check a company's safety rating?
To check a company's safety rating, visit the FMCSA's Safety and Fitness Electronic Records (SAFER) website. You can search for a company using their name, USDOT number, or MC/MX number. Once you locate the company, you'll be able to view their safety rating, along with other key details like inspection records and crash history. If you have any questions or need additional help, feel free to reach out to the FMCSA's Safety Compliance and Safety Accountability (CSA) program.
How do I determine the status of my USDOT Number?
You can check the status of your USDOT number through the following methods:
Online: Visit the SAFER website and search by company name, USDOT number, or MC number.
Submit a ticket: Go to ask.fmcsa.dot.gov, fill out the required fields (and upload any necessary documents), and you'll receive a tracking number.
Chat: Start a live chat with FMCSA Customer Service.
Phone: Call FMCSA Customer Service at 800-832-5660.
To notify FMCSA that you are going out of business, you must submit Form MCS-150 and select "Out of Business" as the reason for filing. Please attach a copy of the Driver’s License from the individual who signed the certification statement (either #31 on Form MCS-150, #37 on Form MCS-150B, or #22 on Form MCS-150C).
If you have an active operating authority linked to your USDOT Number, you must also submit Form OCE-46 along with Form MCS-150. The Form OCE-46 must be notarized or signed in the presence of an FMCSA staff member.
