U.S. stocks edged lower on Tuesday as investors turned their attention to the Federal Reserve’s upcoming interest rate decision, set to be announced Wednesday.

The S&P 500 (^GSPC) dipped 0.13% to close at 6,606.76, while the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) slipped 0.1%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) lost over 100 points, or approximately 0.2%, retreating from recent highs.

Markets are now focused squarely on the outcome of the Fed’s two-day policy meeting, which began Tuesday. Investors overwhelmingly expect a 25 basis point rate cut, marking the first rate reduction since December.
